The Early Childhood Training Center operates a media center with information on age-appropriate activities for children. You can order materials online or contact their resource specialist at 800.892.4453 for ideas. Information and resources may also be available from your local family resource center.

There are numerous websites that cater to activities for children and families. Below are a few you and your family might enjoy. It is always a good idea to visit a site before you recommend it to your child. Different sites contain material appropriate to different age groups. You may want to be with your child the first time he or she visits a site. This will allow you to share time, learn what your child enjoys, and caution them about accessing advertisements that sites may contain.

Remember that these sites are not maintained by FRCCN and we cannot assume responsibility for them. We would like to know what you think of them, however. We would also like to know if you have a favorite site that you would like to share with others.

Please be very careful in giving out personal information, such as name, address, email address and phone number. Never provide a credit card number, bank account number or any other information that could be used to access your personal accounts or charge goods and services to you unless you are purchasing an item. Please report anything suspicious to FRCCN.

You can contact us online or by phone at 402.223.6040.

Blue Mountain Electronic Greeting Cards come in all shapes and sizes for just about any occasion you can imagine. You can send a card now or request delayed delivery so it arrives on that special day.

Nebraska Library Commission. The Nebraska Library Commission maintains listings of sites for children and young adults. The Electronic Library Sites for Kids and Young Adults and the Library Development Services Kids Activity Pages have something for everyone. Some links go directly to sites containing games, activities and interesting information for young people. Others link to listings of sites for those who like to explore the web.

Yahoo Maps can show you where you are in town or in the US. Just type in your address — on a friend’s — and see.

Search for Ancestors is maintained by the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints. It allows you to enter the names of family members and search online websites and databases for information on your ancestors.

Astronomy Resources in Nebraska (ARIN) maintains a web site that provides access to a number of astronomy resources. You can check out what’s visible in tonight’s sky and find out if there is a local observatory open for viewing. It also includes projects and project ideas for K-12 students.

Personal Web Pages. Numerous online servers provide personal web pages or web sites at no or reduced cost. These include America On-Line (AOL), Netscape, and Yahoo. Be certain to check out privacy policies before signing up. Many "free" sites use this enticement as an e-commerce direct marketing tool. Most promise to allow you to decline advertisements, but policies are subject to change. Still, hundreds of thousands of online users sign up for and use these services regularly — so they can’t be all bad. You should also check with the ISP (Internet Service Provider) you currently use to see what options they provide.

MyFamily.com is a comprehensive, on-line family web site option. Your site comes with a chat room, calendar, photo album and news center that any family member can access from any online computer. If you prefer (and have the time) each family group can maintain a separate family site. You can then link to the web sites of other family groups.
