The Family Resource Center Coalition of Nebraska does not provide health, nutrition or insurance services. Local family resource centers may offer such services directly or through one of their local partners. Recognizing the importance of these services to children and families, we are providing links to selected sites that may be of interest to a number of visitors. State of Nebraska. The Nebraska Health and Human Services System (HHSS) offers several sites on Health and Wellness. Some provide information specific to Family Health, including health screenings and programs and services of operated by HHSS. Be certain to check out their immunization site. It provides information on immunizations for you and your children, as well as fact sheets on several diseases. Healthy Child Care Nebraska. seeks to foster and enhance safe and healthy environments for all children. Families, caregivers and health care providers working together can assure the health and safety of children in their homes, in child care and any setting where children live, grow, play and learn. Nemours Foundation. Kids Health is a project of the Nemours Foundation. This site contains a wealth of information pertaining to the health care needs of young children, teenagers and parents. Mayo Clinic. Similar in concept to Kids Health, the Mayo Clinic maintains the online Health Oasis. Looking like an online magazine, this site allows you to browse topics currently in the news or visit one of their Centers for information on a particular issue. State of Nebraska. The Nebraska Health and Human Services System (HHSS) operates two major nutrition programs.
Tufts University. The Tufts University Nutrition Navigator is maintained by the universitys Center on Nutrition Communications School of Nutrition Science and Policy. This online resource reviews and ranks web sites that provide nutrition information. It gives an overview of each site, a ranking and a link to the external site. Categories range from general nutrition to the nutrition needs of special populations. Cooperative Extension. The Lancaster County office of the University of Nebraskas Cooperative Extension Division operates a Food site. Topics include nutrition, food safety and food preparation including recipes. Connecticut Association for Human Services hosts KidsFood CyberClub. Sponsored by Kaiser Permanente, this site includes fun facts and activities for children, parents and teachers. Kids Connection is designed to provide affordable health insurance to Nebraskas children. The program is operated by the Nebraska Health and Human Services System and does have income guidelines. CHIP (Comprehensive Health Insurance Program) is designed for adults and children who do not qualify for Kids Connection and cannot obtain health insurance in the private sector because of a pre-existing medical condition. Rates are based on 135 percent of the standard risk rate. Actual cost will vary depending on the type of policy you select. Currently, childrens policies are substantially discounted. There are no income guidelines, but you must have been denied coverage because of a pre-existing medical condition, been offered a ridered policy because of a pre-existing medical condition, or have been offered a policy that is more expensive than CHIP. The program is administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska. You can contact the program administrator at 800.356.3485 for an application, as well as rate and benefit information. Information is available online through the Nebraska Department of Insurance. NICA (Nebraska Health Insurance Information, Counseling and Assistance Program) is designed to help older adults sort through the Medicare system. Trained volunteers work one-on-one with Medicare recipients to help them understand claims and submit appeals. |
