Agency Description Family Resource Library The Family Resource Library provides consumer-friendly information about child and family health and illness. The library also has information about support groups and agencies. Goal The goal of the Children's Hospital Family Resource Library is to provide our families and the community with access to a wide range of health and medical information. Our aim is to promote individual responsibility for health. The resources provided are for informational purposes only. We do not specifically recommend or endorse any diagnostic or treatment protocol that may be conveyed in the information provided. The information provided is not a substitute for the advice of your primary care provider. Staff Support The library staff can help you find the answers to your questions on child and family health, illness, and behavior. The staff will help you search computer databases and the Internet for the information you need. We will also help you find appropriate books, videos, and pamphlets on your subject. Fees Our services are free. We do not charge you to borrow or use materials at the library. If you choose to return a book by mail, you pay the postage. If you lose or do not return materials you borrow, you will be asked to pay for them. Family Resource Library Welcomes You! Affiliations
Nebraska SPRING Through Nebraska SPRING, the Family Resource Library can access the Parent Information and Resource Center (PIRC). The PIRC includes the Family Resource Line and access to the Early Childhood Training Center Media Center. The Media Center's numerous and varied materials are available on a free-loan basis. On-Site Partners The Family Resource Library is located in Children's Hospital. Maggie McMeekin, Education Specialist for Children's Hospital, has her office here. Tech Tots, the Cerebral Palsy of Nebraska toy lending library, is housed at the Family Resource Library.
Programs & Services Family Resource Library Materials. The library has books, videos, computer databases, and pamphlets related to healthcare and behavioral issues for adults, teens, and children. Topics include:
Computerized Information. The library's holdings are cataloged on the computer. Books and videos are checked out, and user records are maintained through the computer. The library has the lnfotrac and Clinical Reference medical information programs. Printouts are provided at no charge. Mail Library Loan. If you cannot come to the library, call us at 402.955.7144. Tell our staff what information you are looking for. If you cannot come to the library, we can mail you the information. Most books can be sent and returned by mail too. Multi-Cultural Materials. We are trying to build our collections to meet the needs of the cultural groups in our community. Some materials are already available in Spanish. Please tell us about books, videos or pamphlets that may be beneficial to our users who are Spanish speaking, Native American, or of other ethnic groups. Internet Access. The library provides free Internet access. Please limit your time to 20 minutes if others are waiting. Printouts are free of charge. Nebraska Network for Children and Families (NNCF). The Library has been selected as an Internet Access Site for the Nebraska Network for Children and Families, a statewide project that is using the Internet to assist families and professionals in accessing human services. This service allows the users to view information on the Nebraska Resource and Referral System, educational and training programs, as well as electronic mail discussion groups. Tech Tots. The library houses Tech Tots, the toy lending library of United Cerebral Palsy of Nebraska. The program lends adaptive toys to families of disabled children.
