Agency Description

Family Resource Center: The One-Stop-Shop concept for families and individuals to assess the resources necessary for successful management of self and family, health care options and employment skills.

Concept: The Family Resource Center originated with a vision of the Family Preservation Team, formed in 1986 with a grant from the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation. By combining state government, local programs and community based support into one team working together for children and families, this center became the first facility of its kind in the nation.

Today’s partnership of organizations and human service agencies is located in Adams Hall on the campus of Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Nebraska. This unique collaboration provides numerous opportunities to develop and promote educational programs, prevention plans and early intervention systems that will strengthen the quality of life for individuals and families living in southeast Nebraska. A board of directors governs the Family Resource Center. Directors are representatives of the FRC member agencies, business and industry, law enforcement, health care, the ministerial association, a former consumer of service and the community at large.

Nebraska SPRING

Through Nebraska SPRING, the Beatrice Family Resource Center can access the Parent Information and Resource Center (PIRC). The PIRC includes the Family Resource Line and access to the Early Childhood Training Center Media Center. The Media Center's numerous and varied materials are available on a free-loan basis. Additional information on these resources is available at Programs and Services.

In addition to the above support, the Beatrice Family Resource Center is one of nine Parents As Teachers (PAT) projects funded in part by Nebraska SPRING through the Department of Education Parent Information and Resource Center program.

PAT is an internationally recognized early childhood parent education and family support program. It is a voluntary program for parents with children from birth though age 5. PAT promotes parent involvement in learning from the very beginning of a child’s life and fosters optimal development of the young child. This free program covers child development; suggests activities that encourage language development, intellectual growth, and social and motor skills; and strengthens the parent-child relationship.

A number of independent studies show that children who participate in PAT are significantly advanced over their peers and that these early gains continue after the children enter elementary school.

For more information on the Beatrice Parents As Teachers program, contact Pat Timm at (402) 223-6040.
